Management Team

Michel Stanier - General Manager
Michel Stanier is the General Manager for Teledyne Optech. He is responsible for the performance of the organization across 3 commercial business units – Airborne, Terrestrial and Bathymetry – as well as the Defense & Security segment, and for diversification and growth into new markets. Michel initially worked at Optech from 1992 to 1999 as a Project Scientist and Project Manager. He then led the product development group at MDS Sciex, a leader in analytical equipment for the Pharma and Biotech industry, then served as VP of both R&D and Production for Scican, a Canadian medical technology company that later merged into the Sanavis Group. He was then the VP of Sanavis Group in charge of their largest product division before rejoining Optech in 2012. Michel earned a B.Sc. in Physics from Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France in 1989, an M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Toronto in 1992, and an MBA with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario in 2003.

Paul LaRocque - Vice President, Special Projects
Dr. LaRocque is responsible for new business opportunities at Teledyne Optech. After completing doctoral work in laser physics at the University of Toronto in 1985, Paul joined Optech as a Project Scientist studying atmospheric lidar applications. During the 1990s and early 2000s, he managed Optech’s airborne lidar bathymetry program, which created the first-generation SHOALS and HawkEye bathymeters, and led to the SHOALS 1000/3000 series. He led the Advanced Technology group from 2006 to 2015, which worked on various Space programs such as OSIRIS-REx, and developed new product models such as the Lynx mobile survey system and the Orion, Pegasus and Titan airborne lidars.

Chris Verheggen - SVP Research and Development
Chris oversees the engineering and manufacturing of all products at Teledyne Optech. Having joined Optech near the initial launch of the ALTM Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper product line, Chris served in various technical capacities before being appointed Hardware Development Manager for the ALTM. In 2005 he changed focus, taking over responsibility for Hardware and Software Engineering management for Optech’s family of terrestrial lidar systems. He later expanded his knowledge of Optech’s products as part of the Advanced Technology group, taking part in the development of the Lynx Mobile Mapper, the SHOALS lidar bathymeter, and Optech’s camera systems.

Ed Sluys - Vice President, Finance
Ed is responsible for Teledyne Optech’s financial resources and compliance activities. He manages the finance team and is responsible for procurement and inventory management activities. Ed has over 20 years of financial management experience. Before joining Optech in 2011, Ed served as Group Controller at AMD, where he was responsible for their worldwide cost accounting and inventory systems and processes, and later managed the finances of AMD’s worldwide software engineering team. Before AMD, he managed the finance team at Acushnet Canada Inc., the Canadian arm of an international sports equipment company. Prior to Acushnet, Ed worked in public accounting where he managed assurance services for Grant Thornton. Ed has an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland and holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Wenjie Wang - Country Manager, China
As General Manager for China, Wenjie brings Teledyne Optech’s solutions to fresh markets. He has overall responsibility for Teledyne Optech in China, including expanding the team to strengthen sales, delivery, training, local inventory and client support. Trained at Xian Highway University, Wenjie gained practical experience as an engineer and has worked in senior management roles for sales, marketing, and support. Having joined the Teledyne Optech team in 2015, he is excited to help Teledyne Optech build on its reputation as a trusted partner by continuing to focus on delivering high-quality products and professional local support.
